Shougang Coal Silos

The renovation of the Shougang Coal Silos is a benchmark project for the revitalization and utilization of industrial heritage in the Beijing Shougang Park. On the basis of preserving the original six giant silo structures, it has been upgraded and transformed into a multi-functional cultural space for art storage, exhibition, and display. This is a renovation project of existing buildings, different from new construction. The site has complex existing structures and limited pipeline routes, while also needing to meet environmental standards for the storage of cultural relics, imposing dual requirements for green energy efficiency and safety reliability on fire protection, HVAC, and supporting pipeline networks. In northern China, with significant temperature differences between winter and summer, the interior spaces of the silos are large, posing a risk of condensation due to day-night temperature variations. The pipeline systems must both adapt to the installation conditions of the existing structures and meet the strict requirements for stable temperature and humidity for the storage spaces.

Existing building renovation projects have complex site conditions, constrained by the original building walls, silo structures, and reserved openings, demanding higher adaptability in pipe processing and installation tolerance. Bolai Steel, considering the particularities of industrial heritage renovation projects, provides tailored pipe solutions for this project, serving the construction of the entire pipeline network. The production process focuses on consistency of finished product dimensions, adaptation to non-standard on-site installation conditions, and reducing secondary processing workload at the construction site. All products undergo safety testing in accordance with project-related standards before leaving the factory, ensuring long-term operational compatibility with combined old and new structures and guaranteeing the stability of the pipeline system in exhibition and storage spaces.

As a pipe manufacturing group with extensive experience in key projects, Bolai Steel leverages its enterprise laboratory’s technical analysis capabilities to provide supporting technical assistance for the special conditions of renovation projects. Additionally, as one of China’s top 500 manufacturing enterprises, it can meet the phased construction and multi-process overlapping work requirements of renovation projects. Participation in the Shougang Coal Silo renovation represents Bolai Steel’s practical case in urban renewal and industrial heritage revitalization, providing reliable pipe solutions for the transformation of existing industrial buildings into cultural public spaces.
